"Let me guess," Felix said. "These tunnels aren't quake proof?"

"Not quite." Natalya called out, "Harmony, come on!"

The ground shook again. Sydney wasn't prone to earthquakes. Not that I thought for a minute this was a natural occurrence.

The piles of books slid off onto the floor with a crash that echoed through the whole library. Now I realised why my voice echoed when I first stepped foot in the room. It wasn't a room, but part of a system of tunnels.

"It'll be quicker up the stairs," I said. I started back toward them.

Just as I put my foot on the bottom step, the ground shook for a third time. All around the library, shelves collapsed, books and scrolls went flying. Pieces of ceiling started to fall.

I turned to see Natalya and the two guys, still at the doorway they'd come in through. Between us, was an ever-growing pile of rubble.

"Get yourself out." Natalya waved me away. "We'll find you. Somehow."

I hesitated a moment longer, then nodded and hurried up the stairs. I hoped to the gods they were strong enough to protect themselves against falling debris. Otherwise, they were three more on the list of people hurt because of me.

I trotted to the top of the stairs and pressed the wall to open the secret door. For a moment, I wondered what would happen if it didn’t open.

Before I could start to panic, it slid open slowly, revealing first a sliver, then a window full of daylight.

I clicked off the torch and got ready to draw magic if I needed to.

I stepped out into the empty kitchen and closed the wall behind me. It shut silently, but the sounds from the crumbling library continued. Rattling windows and crockery, confirmed that it wasn't just happening underground.

I ducked down low and headed for a window. Gingerly, I peered outside, to the back of the church. As far as I could tell, there was no one there.

Keeping low, I made my way to the front of the church. A few large windows were open onto the street. A quick glance showed me exactly what I hoped not to see.

Fuck in a bucket.

A black SUV. Two of them. No, three. No matter how dogmatic Paxton might be, they wouldn't send three just for me. They must also be after Natalya and the guys, or maybe they thought the Whitlock brothers were with me.

I crouched back down and thought quickly. The ground rumbled for a fourth time. That made my mind up for me.

Staying as low as I could, I bolted to the back of the church, unlocked the door and slipped into the empty yard.

The yard was surrounded by a high fence. One designed for looks, rather than to keep anyone in or out.

I chewed my lip. The moment I stepped away from the church, I would be out in the open. I couldn't rule out the possibility that Zeta was after Natalya and the guys, and had no idea I was here, but I
